Deal safely on Lanka Market

Lanka Market connects buyers and sellers, but deals happen between you and the other person. These habits keep almost everyone out of trouble.

Lanka Market never asks for payment on your behalf

We do not hold money in escrow, arrange couriers, or send agents to collect items. Anyone claiming otherwise while using our name is a scammer.

For buyers

  • Inspect the item in person before you pay anything.
  • Meet in a busy public place — a bank, supermarket car park or police station forecourt.
  • Never pay an advance, deposit or 'delivery fee' to someone you haven't met.
  • For vehicles, check the CR book, engine and chassis numbers against the documents.
  • For property, verify the deed, survey plan and local authority approvals with a lawyer.
  • Be suspicious of prices far below market value — that's the most common scam hook.

For sellers

  • Don't share your OTP, banking PIN or card details with any buyer.
  • Confirm bank transfers in your own banking app before handing over the item.
  • Take someone with you when meeting a buyer for a high-value item.
  • Avoid handing over documents or keys until full payment has cleared.
  • Report suspicious buyers using the report button on your ad conversation.
